Aboriginal Dot Paining (Adult)

​Do you like to paint? Have you ever created a painting based on Aboriginal Art? Join us for a a relaxing and educational adventure to Australia where you will learn the basic history of Aboriginal Art. Use one of the instructor's templates as a guide for your project, or design your own unique Aboriginal pattern. You will enjoy applying colorful acrylic paints to your canvas by using a fun and easy 'dot technique'. Using this therapeutic method of painting, you will produce a unique conversation piece that you will be proud to display in you home!

Did you know that the native Aborigines use art to communicate and tell stories about their dreams? Circles and arcs are found in many ancient Aboriginal petroglyphs. Join us for an educational adventure to Australia where you will learn about the history of Aboriginal Art! Choose an animal template as a guide for your project, or design your own pattern. Learn how to apply colorful dots of acrylic paint using a fun and easy 'dot technique'. You will create your own amazing Aboriginal work of art to display in your home! 

Art And Relaxation (Adult)

Do you lead a busy life? Are you looking for some ‘me time’ to regroup? Join us for this creative and therapeutic class! You will have an opportunity to practice Japanese relaxation techniques that will promote healthy mindfulness. Listen to relaxing, meditative music, while exploring your creative side. You will enjoy learning how to compose a beautiful work of art that you will be proud to display! The instructor will nurture your artistic side, but also give you relaxation exercises to help with the daily challenges of life. 

 

(Kris Mastley Holtmeyer is a certified Reiki Master Practitioner. She enjoys teaching her students relaxation methods that create a peaceful inner soul and enhance everything in life. Practicing relaxation techniques aids in stress reduction, better sleep, and can help to improve and maintain health.)

Art History: A to Z (Adult and Youth)

Are you interested in learning about some of the Great Artists, but would simply like a basic overview of art history? This entertaining and educational course will take you on an adventure around the world to meet some of the most accomplished artists in history! What made these artists unique? What thoughts went through their minds as they composed their works of art? This is an interactive course, so there will be plenty of time to ask questions during class! A variety of pictures of the artists’ work will be shared.

You will work with a variety of paintbrushes and have fun applying paint to create your beautiful ceramic figurine! All ceramic pieces are fired in a kiln and cleaned before class. So you can paint your piece, seal it with a liquid varnish, and take it home with you that day!

Do you have a special photograph that you would like to see come to life? Learn how to apply and blend vibrant chalk pastels! You will enjoy experimenting with a variety of techniques in a nurturing environment. Students will have an opportunity to create one more beautiful composition that they will be proud to display. The instructor will supply a variety of pictures to use as guides, but students are encouraged to bring their favorite photographs to class. Once your compositions are completed, a white mat will frame your colorful works of art!

Chalk Pastels (Youth)

Do you like to work with chalk? Have fun learning how to apply and blend colorful chalk pastels. You will have fun creating one more beautiful compositions that you will be proud to display at home! The instructor will supply a variety of pictures for you to use as guides, but students are encouraged to bring their favorite photographs or photocopies to class. You will have time to create one or more projects. Once your compositions are completed, a white mat will frame your colorful works of art!

Charcoal Composition (Adult)

Do you like the look of charcoal? Would you like to learn how to work with this relaxing medium? Bring a favorite photo to class, or use one of the instructor's photos as a guide. Using a simple technique, you will create a basic outline of your project. You will enjoy learning how to use both black and white charcoal and a blending stub to generate contrast and make your composition look realistic! A white mat will frame your completed projects that you can proudly display.

Clay Sculpture I (Adult)

​Do you enjoy working with air-dry clay? This course is designed to allow students the opportunity to “play” with potter’s clay without having to have their sculptures fired in a kiln. Learn how to manipulate your slab of clay by using such techniques as wedging, scoring and meshing, which will be demonstrated during class. Plastic tools will be used to sculpt and mold a special three-dimensional composition of your choice. Clay sculptures will need to air-dry for approximately one week prior to painting and sealing applications. Clay Sculpture II will be offered to students who wish to paint and seal their sculptures.

Clay Sculpture II (Youth)

Now that your sculpture has had time to dry, have fun with easy-to-use acrylic paints! You will learn how to apply paint by using a variety of paintbrushes on the sculpture you created in Clay Sculpture I. Have fun mixing and applying color to your work of art! After  you complete your project, it will be sealed with a nontoxic liquid varnish to create a shiny finish. These make great gifts for someone special in your life!

(Please note that Clay Sculpture I is a prerequisite for this course.)

Colored Pencil Composition (Adult)

Do you enjoy working with colored pencils? Join us as we explore this popular medium! This course will cover the basics of drawing and colored pencil application. Learn different techniques on how to layer and add texture to your drawings. Discover how to use light sources to create realistic dimension to your work. You will have the opportunity to create a vibrant work of art suitable for framing!

Colored Pencil Composition (Youth)

Colored Pencil on Suede Board (Adult)

Join us as we explore the wonderful world of colored pencils! This course will cover the basics of drawing and colored pencil application. Learn different techniques on how to layer and add texture to your drawings. Discover how to use light sources to create realistic dimension to your work. You will have the opportunity to draw on suede board to create a vibrant work of art suitable for framing!

Decoupage' (Adult)

Do you like the look of Decoupage'? This fun medium can be quite relaxing and therapeutic! Choose from a wide assortment of beautiful decorative papers for you project. Have fun cutting or tearing your papers into pieces, while you enjoy a casual visit with other students in the class. Learn how to apply a special adhesive and attach your colorful pieces of decorative papers to your three-dimensional object. Embellishments may be added to compliment your stunning work of art. Your project will then be sealed with a nontoxic liquid varnish.

Decoupage' (Youth)

Would you like to learn how to make a beautiful three-dimensional work of art? Decoupage is the fun and creative method of decorating an object with vibrant pieces of colorful papers. You will be supplied with a three-dimensional object, decorative papers, adhesive and scissors. Cut or tear small pieces of various papers and learn how to apply a special adhesive to create an amazing work of art! You will add sparkling jewels to complete your decoupage. Projects will then be sealed with a nontoxic liquid varnish.

Drawing with Pencil: A to Z (Adult)

First, you will brainstorm ideas for your special sculptures. Not sure what type of sculptures to make? You may find that pictures from magazines or photographs will be helpful. Be sure to bring the pictures to class! Then, using flexible wire and other art supplies, you will create your base sculpture to form a solid structure. Choose your favorite duct tape colors and learn how to apply strips of tape to your wire sculpture to make it come to life! These sculptures will become a keepsake.

You will learn how to work with a wire cutter and use a wide array of colorful silk flowers, ribbons, and other fun embellishments to design your own festive wreathe that you can proudly display!

Finger Painting (Adult)

Have you ever used your fingers to paint on canvas? It's fun and easy! Join us as we explore this unique painting technique. Using only your fingers and aqua-based oil paint, you will enjoy creating an impressionistic composition on canvas. Students are encouraged to bring a favorite full-color photocopy to class to use as a guide. Or, they can use one of the instructor's. Latex-free gloves will be available for students to wear while they are creating their one-of-a-kind work of art.

Finger Painting (Youth)

Does your child like to paint? Do they enjoy getting their hands messy? Your student will have fun creating their very own painting on canvas using only their fingers! They will enjoy learning how to apply colorful non-toxic paints using fun and easy techniques. Your student will be proud to display their one-of-a-kind work of art!

Garden Stepping Stones (Adult)

Have you always wanted to make a special stepping stone for your garden or yard? Learn how to mix and pour cement into the mold, without getting messy. Create a beautiful work of art by arranging colorful pieces of cut glass, rocks, glass pebbles and/or other embellishments to your stone. Projects can be taken home the same day, but will need to set after class. Cure time is approximately one week. Stones can be used indoors or outdoors. An exterior sealer may be applied to both sides of the stone once it has cured. This will help preserve your mosaic for years to come. Stones should be brought indoors prior to the winter cold.

Glass Painting I (Adult and Youth)

Do you like the look of stained glass? Glass painting has become a popular way to create inexpensive stained-glass effects. This easy technique will allow you to design and paint your own beautiful glass art using nontoxic leading and a vibrant paint palette. You will choose a template or create your own line design. The design will be transferred onto the glass with liquid leading in this class and painted in Glass Painting II.

Glass Painting II (Adult and Youth)

(Please note that Glass Painting I is a prerequisite for this course.)

 

In this class, you will complete your work from Glass Painting I. Using a variety of paintbrushes and glass paints, you will learn the proper techniques of application. You will have an opportunity to create your own color palette and fill in the outlines with vibrant colors to create an original piece of work. A nontoxic liquid sealer will be applied to the paint after it has cured. Projects can be taken home after class.

Glass Painting - Condensed (Adult and Youth)

This is a condensed course, so rather than using a liquid leading to outline your design, you will use a fine point permanent marker to generate a design on your project. Using a variety of paintbrushes and glass paint, learn how to properly apply the glass paint. You will have an opportunity to create your own color palette and fill in the outlines with vibrant colors to create an original piece of work. A nontoxic liquid sealer will be applied to the paint after it has cured. Projects will be taken home after class.

Mask Making I (Youth)

Join us for this educational adventure as we learn about mask making! Did you know that masks have historically been used to symbolize the spirits of people and animals? Used in ceremonial events, masks are among the most treasured forms of art in the world. You will begin the process by designing your own themed mask on drawing paper and deciding on a color scheme. Now, let the fun begin! You will enjoy learning how to wet and apply strips of plaster to your three-dimensional mask - watch it take shape! When the plaster application is complete, your plaster mask will need to air-dry for one week. You will paint your project in Mask Making II.

Mask Making II (Youth)

Now that your project from Mask Making I has had time to dry thoroughly, you will have the opportunity to paint and decorate your three-dimensional mask! You will enjoy using a variety of brushes and mixing acrylic paints to apply color to your mask. Add vibrant feathers, strands of beads, metallic buttons, raffia, or other festive embellishments to complete your project. Using a liquid sealer will protect your work of art. Proudly display your final creation!

Metal Painting (Adult)

Have you always wanted to try painting on metal? Do you have a creative idea that you would like to attempt? Join us as we explore this fun and easy art medium! You will have an opportunity to choose a metal object for your project. Using your own design or one of the instructor’s, you will choose an image and transfer it onto your painting surface. Learn how to mix and apply colorful oil or enamel paints, using a variety of paintbrushes for your work of art. An interior (indoor) or exterior (outdoor) sealer may be used once your project has had time to cure.

Mini Cake Decorating with Buttercream Icing (Adult)

Have you always wanted to learn basic cake decorating techniques? Come and join us for this creative class! Brainstorm ideas and have fun creating your own intricate design for your 5-inch, two-layer, personal-sized cake. Norwegian Rosemaling for Beginners I (Adult)

Do you like Scandinavian art? Norwegian Rosemaling is the art of applying paint to a various objects using “S” and “C” scrolls. Learn the history of Telemark Rosemaling and create your own unique design! You will be given a two-dimensional object to apply a base color of your choice using acrylic paint. You will then have the opportunity to learn and practice Rosemaling brush stroke techniques for the remainder of the class, in preparation for Norwegian Rosemaling II.

Norwegian Rosemaling for Beginners II (Adult)

(Please note that Norwegian Rosemaling for Beginners I is a prerequisite for this course.)

 

Many students are surprised at how relaxing and therapeutic Rosemaling can be. You will have a chance to review and further practice your brush stroke techniques. Next, using your practice sheet as a guide, you will apply the “S” and “C” scrolls to your object to create an interesting pattern. You can elaborate on your design with additional details by using a liner brush. A nontoxic liquid sealer will be applied to the finished project to maintain the integrity of the artwork.

Norwegian Rosemaling for Advanced I (Adult)

This course is designed for individuals that have already had an introduction to Telemark Rosemaling. You should have a basic understanding of how to create the “S” and “C” brush strokes used in Rosemaling. This course will allow you to elaborate on the Telemark style of painting and introduce you to additional decorative brush strokes that will enhance your two or three-dimensional project. You will apply a base coat of water-based paint or stain to your project and work on your Rosemaling design in this class.

Norwegian Rosemaling for Advanced II (Adult)

(Please note that Norwegian Rosemaling for Advanced I is a prerequisite for this course.)

 

Now that your base coat of paint or stain has had time to cure, you will have the opportunity to apply the design that you created in Norwegian Rosemaling for Advanced I to your project. A variety of paintbrushes and colorful paints will be available for you to choose from to complete your beautiful work of art. You will use a nontoxic liquid sealer on your Rosemaling to protect the integrity of your artwork.

Oil Pastels (Adult)

Do you have special photographs that you would like to see come to life? Learn how to apply and blend colorful oil pastels! You will have fun experimenting with a variety of techniques in a nurturing environment. Students will have an opportunity to create beautiful compositions that they will be proud to display. The instructor will supply a variety of pictures to use as guides, but students are encouraged to bring their favorite photographs to class with them. Once your compositions are completed, a white mat will frame your colorful works of art!

Oil Pastels (Youth)

Do you have a special photograph that you would like to see come to life? Learn how to apply and blend colorful oil pastels. You will have fun experimenting with a variety of techniques. Students will create beautiful a composition that they will be proud to display in their home. The instructor will supply a variety of pictures to use as guides, but students are encouraged to bring their favorite photographs to class with them. Once your composition is completed, a white mat will frame your colorful work of art!

Palette Knife Painting (Adult)

See a favorite photo come to life on canvas! In this relaxing introductory course, you will have an opportunity to use your own 8.5” x 11” photo (or photocopy), as a guide while replicating the image onto a painting canvas with graphite. You will use a variety of palette knives (tools) and have fun using a unique technique to mix and apply paint to your canvas. That's right, no paint brushes necessary! You will enjoy learning this fun and easy method for applying vibrant-colored paints to create your own impressionistic work of art! (This course can also be themed.)

Papier-mâché is a fun and easy medium that allows students of all ages the opportunity to create some amazing sculptures! You will design a variety of thumbnails (sketches) using paper and pencil and then choose your favorite design. You will create a base sculpture for your project (using wire, if necessary) and a variety of other art supplies. Have fun applying strips of plaster to you sculpture to make it look three-dimensional. (Your sculpture will need one week to cure prior to painting it. An additional class will be required to paint the sculptures.)

Have you ever wanted to create your own print design? This creative and therapeutic course will give you exposure to the world of printmaking! You will have the opportunity to create a unique design and then carve your artwork onto linoleum, using a metal carving tool. When your carving is completed, you will enjoy learning how to apply paint to a brayer to create a multitude of prints on paper. Choose your favorite prints and they will be matted!

Printmaking with Foam Board Carving (Youth)

Have you ever wanted to create your own print design? This fun, creative course will give you exposure to the world of basic printmaking. You will have the opportunity to create and carve your own unique designs on foam, using a special stylus. When your carvings are completed, you will use a brayer to roll water-based inks onto your foam design to create a multitude of prints on various colored paper stocks. You will have time to make several prints. Choose your favorite prints and they will be matted!

Prop Design (Adult and Youth)

(This course can be individualized or used as a group activity. The material is geared toward students ages 10 or older; however, the course can be modified for younger-aged children, using no carpentry tools and using suitable building materials for children ages 3 and older.)

 

Have you ever wanted to learn how stage props are designed? Join us for a fun-filled adventure as we journey into the world of stage design! Using paper and pencil, you will brainstorm ideas and create a variety of thumbnails for your project. After choosing your favorite idea, you will learn how to use a variety of art supplies and carpenter tools to construct your one-of-a-kind creation—the sky is the limit! Upon completion, your project will go home with you. Be prepared to have a great time!

In this class, you will have an opportunity to design your own templates, or use the instructor’s. Using lightweight carbon paper and pencil, you will transfer your designs onto your wood projects. Have fun learning how to use the pyrography tool and various tips, to create one or more festive works of art. These make wonderful gifts!

 

(Safety gloves will be provided by the instructor and worn by students when using the pyrography tool during class time.)

Quilling/Filigree (Adult)

Also known as filigree, this unique style of art has been used for the past several centuries. Quilling is the art of curling colorful, thin strips of paper into different shapes to create ornate and interesting designs. You will learn how to use a metal slotted tool and special quilling paper to make your own works of art. As you work on your composition, you will attach the curled pieces of paper onto weighted paper with a nontoxic adhesive to create a collage. If you would like, the project may be framed.

Join us as we explore this fun and easy medium! Choose a simple outline and let the fun begin! Have fun tearing-out colorful ads from magazines, that are supplied by the instructor. Learn how to strategically cut and place your papers, to create an amazing composition. Rock Painting for Indoor Use (Adult)

Are you looking for a therapeutic hobby? Painted rocks are popular and come in a variety of shapes and sizes! Join us for a fun and entertaining class as we explore the world of rock painting! Choose a unique stone in class and then brainstorm ideas, by studying the shape of the rock. You will apply a base coat of paint to your stone. Have fun mixing vibrant acrylic paints and using a variety of tools to make your rock come to life.

 

(An interior spray, or liquid sealer, should be applied to the stone when dry, to protect your work of art.)

Wooden Ornaments (Adult and Youth)

Are you looking for a fun and creative activity? Learn how to paint ornate and decorative designs on a festive wooden ornament! Design your own unique and individual pattern or use the templates provided in class. You will use acrylic paints and detail paintbrushes to create a beautiful work of art. A liquid sealer will be applied to your completed artwork. You will choose a colorful ribbon to attach to your project, which will compliment your brushwork. Display your ornament at home, or give it as a gift to someone special in your life! (This course can be themed. The shape of wooden ornament may vary, depending on the theme that is chosen.)

Wood Painting (Adult and Youth)

Have you always wanted to try painting on wood? Do you have a creative idea that you would like to attempt? Join us as we explore this fun and easy art medium! You will have an opportunity to choose a wooden object for your project. Using your own design or one of the instructor’s, you will choose an image and transfer it onto your painting surface. Learn how to mix and apply colorful acrylic paints, using a variety of paintbrushes for your work of art. An interior (indoor) or exterior (outdoor) sealer may be used to protect your project, once your work of art has had time to cure.
